Chris Telfer is your Oregon State Senator for District 27, serving most of Deschutes County. Chris comes from a family of long time public officials, civil servants, and volunteers. She is currently serving her first term in the Oregon Legislature and prides herself as a voice of reason and common sense.
In her first legislative session, Chris made a lot of headway working for her constituents while earning the respect of many of her colleagues in the Legislature. Despite being a member of the Republican minority, she worked hard towards bipartisan solutions that made sense. She focused on what she had set out to do as a State Senator, and successfully kept her campaign promises. Her healthcare bill, which was passed unanimously in both the House and in the Senate, will insure that Oregonians can now be empowered to address their own health care needs and access community resources, rather than wait for a 3rd rate solution from the Federal Government. Chris also had an imperative role in making sure our OSU Cascades Campus is preserved here in Central Oregon. Of the ten bills Senator Telfer was responsible for introducing to her Legislative colleagues, eight were passed – a major feat for a Republican Freshman Senator in a Democratic-dominated legislature.
Chris has seen the changes, growth, and struggles over the 33 years she's lived in Bend. She believes that the state should operate and budget just as a family or business is required to. The budget is in disarray and she is now working on solutions. As a CPA, Chris is the only individual currently serving in the Oregon Legislature, with a financial expertise. Her input and opinions are highly valued by her fellow legislators and when she speaks, they listen.
Our roads and highways have needs that are finally being addressed in Salem. Those of us who live and work in Redmond, Bend, Sisters, and La Pine all depend on state highways to move from home to work or to the grocery store. These days that is not easy, but Chris continues to stand behind the needs of her Central Oregonian constituents. Transportation continues to be a critical issue for Chris and she has successfully worked to leverage Federal Funds that will now enable our rural airports to make long term improvements and long-needed expansions.
I encourage you to learn more about Chris and make sure she is aware of your concerns and the issues you are facing. She is here to listen, here to help, and here to act. Chris promises to be the voice of reason, your voice in Salem.
